McKinley County Metropolitan Dispatch Authority (MCMDA) provides assistance to public safety agencies operating within the county. The center receives requests for service of a public safety nature, including law enforcement, fire subversion and emergency medical services. The center then relays those requests to appropriate agencies that are charged with providing those services.
Metro Dispatch operates using a joined center system. In any emergency situation, seconds can mean the difference between life and death. Our joined center provides the citizens of McKinley County with the fastest possible response to any kind of emergency. Requests for emergency services are received at one central location. Those requests are then prioritized in accordance with established policies and procedures, with the appropriate agency dispatched depending upon jurisdiction. A joined center offers the fastest possible response to an emergency by nullifying the transfer of calls to different agencies. McKinley Metro Dispatch has been a joined dispatch center since December of 1992.
MCMDA dispatches two law enforcement agencies and twenty-three fire departments. The law enforcement agencies are the McKinley County Sheriff’s Department and the Gallup Police Department. We also assist the New Mexico State Police as well as the Navajo Nation Police Departments as the need presents itself.
