County Treasurer, Richard Bowman
Elected Treasurer in November, 2004,
Richard Bowman took over the Treasurer's Office in January, 2005. Born
in Tohatchi, Mr. Bowman attended school at Valley High in Albuquerque
and served in the Army in Germany and the United States. He attended
Highland University and Northern Arizona University, earning a degree in
police science, and taught at the Navajo Nation Police Academy in Window
Rock.
He also attended the University of
Utah and earned a masters degree in social work.
The Treasurer's Office collects
property taxes and other taxes, manages public funds, keeps an account
of all monies received and disbursed, and maintains records of all
McKinley County financial transactions. The Treasurer works in
coordination with the
Finance Department
in a system of checks and balances, contributes to the capital
budgeting process, makes recommendations regarding legislative changes
to update state laws dealing with county government, and addresses any
audit findings, which typically are minimal.
Chief Deputy Treasurer, Josie Alonzo
Ms. Alonzo is a life time resident
of Gallup and a graduate of Gallup High School. Ms. Alonzo has
worked with McKinley County for eleven years with the past eight
years working in the Treasurer’s Department.
